Caitlyn McFadden's goal with 5:47 left stood up as the game winner before a record announced crowd of 9,782 at Towson's Johnny Unitas Stadium as the Terrapins (22 1) won their 11th national title and their 10th in the NCAA. Karri Ellen Johnson added an insurance goal on a feed from Sarah Mollison with 2:03 left. Johnson, Mollison and Katie Schwarzmann scored three goals each to lead the Terps to a victory that ends the Wildcats' title streak at five and preserves Maryland's run of seven championships as the longest in the sport. Maryland took its first lead of the game, 9 8, on McFadden's free position goal to open the second half. It was the Terps sixth straight goal in the past 15:23. The Terps then squandered a couple of opportunities, but the Wildcats helped them out by hitting a couple of pipes on their next possession and then turning it over on an unforced error. Abby Caso then fired a terrific lead pass to Brandi Jones for the long run and the transition goal to give the Terps a 10 8 lead with 19:57 left. Turnovers on Maryland's next three possessions enabled Northwestern to slow the game down and pull even at 10 on Shannon Smith's goal with 12:03 to go. Alexandra Frank brought the Wildcats within 10 9 with 17:39 left on her first goal of the game when Smith fed her from across the crease to break a 27:33 scoring drought. Smith then scored her unassisted goal to tie. The Wildcats had a chance to take the lead for the first time in the second half, but Terps goalie Brittany Dipper saved Smith's free position shot and McFadden fed Jones for the transition goal and an 11 10 lead with 9:51 left. On Northwestern's next possession, Danielle Spencer turned the ball over on a charge on Laura Merrifield, and McFadden beat her defender at the far end for a 12 10 Terps lead with 5:47 to go. Spencer pulled the Wildcats within 12 11 on her second goal of the game, working the crease with 2:57 left. The one thing Maryland didn't want to do was fall far behind early against the Wildcats' potent attack, but Northwestern ran up its 6 0 lead in less than nine minutes. The Terps were undaunted, beginning their first half comeback when Schwarzmann scored off a pipe rebound Mollison's shot with 18:49 left. Mollison and Johnson added goals to cut the lead to 6 3 with 15:54, but Northwestern scored twice in 10 minutes on free position shots from Amanda Macaluso and Taylor Thornton. Schwarzmann appeared to score off the draw a few seconds later, but the goal was waved off because of an inadvertent official's whistle just before her shot. A few minutes later, however, the freshman and Century High graduate scored on a free position shot to set the Terps off on a five goal run that tied the game at eight. Mollison evened the game when she took a long pass from McFadden off the draw control and slipped into the high near corner with 1:08 to go. Dipper made her fifth save of the half against Katrina Dowd, who was tightly defended in the arc, with about 15 seconds left. The Wildcats were held without a goal on six shots in the final 15:12 of a half that featured 45 fouls 26 of them by Northwestern..

Using Social Media to Increase Sales and Brand AwarenessUser Rating: / 0 PoorBest Social Media MarketingWritten by Anthony Peter O'Flynn Thursday, 15 April 2010 11:23 Companies are continuously launching marketing campaigns in an effort to promote their brand and boost their sales. Some of these are highly successful Carlsberg's slogan and advertising of 'probably the best lager in the world' generates excellent brand awareness and reputation. This then contributes to increased sales and ultimately increased profits. However, many of these companies have large marketing and advertising budgets. What if your company can not afford these marketing initiatives? This is where Social media marketing comes in. Most social media marketing'tools'are free to use and can provide the same amount of marketing exposure whether you are just starting out or are a giant conglomerate. This article explains how you can use social media marketing to increase sales at a relatively low cost. Firstly, let's just dispel the myth that social media marketing does not lead to a direct increase in sales. Here are some examples to prove this: Sony announced in February that through Twitter they had earned an extra 1million in sales, Dell announced in June last year that their presence on Twitter accounted for $3 million dollars increase in sales. You might argue that these are two big companies and they already have a brand reputation. However, other smaller companies have also experienced increased sales through social media marketing. John Fluevog Boots Shoes Ltd, a small shoe making company in Canada, reported a 40% increase in sales in 2009, the same year it started social media marketing, this was not by chance. So how can social media marketing contribute to increased sales for your company? Social media tools allow you access to millions of people. A television advert will reach the people watching at that time and allows for no interaction with the consumer. One tweet can reach millions of people. Sainsbury's for example regularly tweet their latest offers. Anyone wanting to keep up with these can simply follow Sainsbury's on Twitter. This gives a much bigger potential customer base and allows for sales to increase, whilst also creating brand awareness. Furthermore, people can respond to these tweets, which provides a forum for customer interaction and thus customer insight. Your business can emulate this, tweeting your promotions provides free advertising. If this is done creatively, it really can boost sales and get your company noticed. Social media marketing works in a similar way to other forms of marketing; it is viral. A small company initially works on a word of mouth basis, people tell their friends. Social media, especially Twitter and Facebook, work with this 'friend' concept. People can give you positive reviews, recommend your product and tweet about your company. This whole social community allows your company's name and brand to be viewed by a significant amount of people. Continuous use of social media over time creates brand awareness and thus helps to increase sales. One of our clients, PeachorLemon, a car review website, gained over one hundred followers on Twitter within a week. This is a hundred more people who know about promotions and offers, may tell their friends, visit the website or use other social media outlets to mention PeachorLemon. All this creates brand awareness and over time increased use of the website, thus increasing its value. The effect social media can have on brand awareness is critical in the future of small businesses marketing strategy. Brand awareness is only one way in which sales are increased, there are many other important contributing factors. Joe Deshotel will be out in the fresh air working off a few calories and clearing out the cobwebs. Deshotel plans to participate in the annual Turkey Trot run at Tyrrell Park today. Running for office is the most exercise some officials get but a few, like Deshotel and Beaumont City Councilman , find running to be a good fit to civic life. After recovering from bypass surgery last year, Deshotel began an exercise program with a free gym membership he received. At the gym, he fell in with a group of runners. "I started running with them well, not actually running with them, because they would leave me behind," he said. Since then, Deshotel has been a regular at all the local benefit runs. Coleman first began running in 1980, when he was in dental school. It was "a stress breaker," he said, adding that he ran his first half marathon in 1981. He stopped for many years to devote his energies to raising his young children, but took it up again once they were in high school, by about 2002. Coleman, 53, is a familiar face at local running events as well. When he was first elected, Coleman mapped out running routes that took him on a tour of his ward to familiarize himself with the condition of streets and other details. "I would run through Old Town, Minglewood running through different subdivisions, I'd see the ward, see the streets, see the curbs," he said. "I'd see those busted sidewalks." When weather and time permits, Coleman suits up and takes a run around downtown after Tuesday afternoon City Council meetings. The run has become more enjoyable since completion of the Calder Avenue reconstruction project, which improved the street's appearance and brought hundreds of houses out of flood plain. "Looking at that makes me happy," he said. Coleman and Deshotel both said running helps them do their jobs better. Both mentioned the benefits of clearing the mind and increasing energy levels they get from running. Deshotel said his gym workouts and running activities have introduced him to new people, broadening the scope of his knowledge of his constituents' interests and concerns. "I met a group of people, about 20 or so people we sit around and talk and it becomes like an extended family or group," he said. He's also lost weight, dropping about 40 pounds from his heaviest weight of 280 pounds. Deshotel played football in high school, but after becoming interested in politics when he was in college, he adopted a more sedentary lifestyle, leading to the "couch potato" designation. He was as surprised as anyone at the sudden lifestyle change. "If someone had told me two years ago I'd be doing this, I would have said they were crazy," he said. It might have taken him a while to start running, but once he did, the bug bit him. "I wait till I'm about 60 to start running, that's the way it works," he said "Better late than never!" Earlier this month, Deshotel completed his first half marathon, the run in San Antonio. He bragged that he completed the course half an hour ahead of his son, , quickly adding that the younger Deshotel had been stopping to shoot photographs along the route. Free Shipping Worldwide Air Jordan 14 Low Light Graphite,Air Jordan 6 Rings Powder Blue Prom: it's loaded with expectations. For some, it's merely a dance. For others, it means that first great step into adulthood, while savoring one's position at the top of the grammar school food chain. And for some, it means a night of pure Cinderella magic. Combine all this with a youth oriented culture, and you have an event that demands a serious fashion plan. So what fashion forces are driving Prom 2004? The answers are: curves, glamour and loads of color. "Prom 2004" is actually a bit of a misnomer, as most dresses tend to follow Fall 2003 styles. This make sense: prom dresses are high ticket items, and retailers need a chance to test out trends in the shopping malls. (Hair is more adaptable, so prom hair is more attuned to the present). As for fashion in general, it's still reeling from the ultimate anti fashion incident: the 9/11 attack. You may recall that the industry stopped in its tracks. Major fashion shows were cancelled, or scaled down to a roomful of attendees on folding chairs. "Can fashion still matter?" was the question no one could ignore. But of course, fashion didn't die. As always, it reflected the newly altered world view. "World views" contain many interlocking strands, as does fashion, but strong themes emerged and are still in play. Here are some of the best articulated trends in Prom 2004: Dressy, formal looks from the 30s and 60s. Think Hollywood glamour, and Jacquie Kennedy. Beneath this trend is the new focus on attending family events and dressing up for them. Expressing the 30s are the curvy, Screen Siren prom gowns: smoky mermaids in luxurious ruched satin, and Latin style ruffles and trains. Reviving the 60s are Grace Kelly/Jacquie O A line skirts, sometimes tea length, with crinoline slips. These classic beauties are updated with simpler, more natural hair and makeup, not to mention some mod style colors (bold black and white, bright red, or submarine yellow). Gloves and a small shiny pocketbook are must haves, but for 2004, you don't have to stick to ordinary colors! Timeless prom queen gowns are fully au courant as well no amount of beading, boning, crinoline or shine is over the top, so enjoy the license for glamour. Perhaps this is the right year to indulge in a delicate tiara! You'll be surprised by the number of strapless gowns on offer. Every one of these "solidarity" gowns lend themselves to classic strapless glamour. // The Eastern Bloc Fashion influence is drifting, and the East is gaining ground: Londoners do their best to dress like Persians, and Bollywood antics make the global radar more often. You'll see the lovely outcome in those 2004 prom offerings with an elegant sari look and extraordinary hand beading. // Sporty Spice J. Lo lives on in the sporty side of Prom 2004, where two piece gowns (some midriff bearing) continue to make a splash. This look is not only fresh but practical; those beautiful bodices can be paired with jeans long after prom night's become a matchbook and a memory. "Sporty prom" fashionistas can augment their costume with sparkling navel gems and exotic paint on body tattoos. // Celebrity Fashion Can it go any lower? The prom world's not immune from red carpet antics, and several sultry 2004 offerings call for double sided tape. This year's 'necklines' sometimes plunge so far that there's nowhere else to go; look for 'backdrift' to follow (no pun intended) in the next few years. // In Truth, 2004 The dresses genuinely in sync with 2004 runways are the ultra feminine pastels, with delicate ruffles. Think "prom dress meets the park." Don't be afraid to go with soft green, coral and pink paeons to girlhood, simply because most offerings are jewel toned and sizzlingly seductive. // Hair Soft, shiny waves are new for spring (think lovely Charlize Theron at the Golden Globes); Aniston straight is out. Whatever you do, don't torture your hair into some unnatural confection; it's simplicity and naturalness that updates these retrospective looks. // Shoes Clunky is dead. Open toed stilettos are red hot. Sure, the gorgeous silver (or transparent) sky high creations on the market are the ultimate in impracticality. The romantic prom goer will buy them anyway, get a great pedicure, and slip them off halfway through the night for a 'best of both worlds' (if not 'best for the pocketbook') experience. With all those strapless fashions, take care not to over accessorize. Unless you're going for a vintage look, don't spoil that beautiful expanse of clavicle with a necklace; don sparkly, dangling earrings instead to create a long line. If the Nicole Kidman look is more to your taste, consider one of those retro multi strand chokers (in black, of course), or a slim black ribbon paired with a silk rose. Chandelier earrings might be "outre" at the Oscars, but they're definitely not a done deal at Prom 2004. Air Jordan 14 Low Light Graphite Thanks to all who stopped by the WAVY/FOX 43 booth at the 2010 in Virginia Beach. A few years ago, we had sweltering heat. Last year, it was freezing and windy. This year, the weather was perfect! Nicole and Kerri meet fans at NAS Oceana Thousands of people came out to see the Blue Angels and other pilots and all of the businesses that had booths at the annual event. Because of the large crowds it took some time to get on base and park. I joined Kerri Furey, Tom Schaad and John Massey on Saturday, September 18. Handing out autographs and other WAVY Fox goodies It always nice to meet the folks who are tuning in and to win over some new viewers. Congrats to all who won cool prizes when they played corn hole at our booth. Lots of spirit from the cheerleaders, band and student council members who led the rest of the fans in cheering on the Marlins to a win at home. Sunset over Virginia Beach from Chopper 10 Next stop, the Sportsplex for the Landstown game against Green Run. That place is so big it always looks somewhat empty even when there are a lot of folks there. The Landstown cheerleaders told me about the great things happening in the school including it was ranked by Newsweek magazine as one of the best high schools in the nation. Nicole with Landstown cheerleaders at the Sportsplex They told me about Project Graduation and shared with me the special wristbands every student will receive this school year in honor of Landstown 10 year anniversary. Landstown 10 year anniversary wristbands Can you believe it been 10 years? Really makes me feel old considering that school didn even exist when I went to Kempsville. Our final stop was the Tallwood at Ocean Lakes game. I was really excited to land here because the school officials set me up with some awesome stories. First, I met Danny Alexander. Danny Alexander, Ocean Lakes football manager He been a manager for the Dolphins for a few years now and he takes his job very seriously keeping the players hydrated and with that million dollar smile Nicole with Danny Alexander, Ocean Lakes football manager I sure he always keeps them in good spirits! One guy Danny helps on the sidelines is 50, Josh Mann. Ocean Lakes football player Josh Mann with his winning shoe design Josh just won a nationwide competition with Nike in its shoe design competition. He started every game at Ocean Lakes and he has a 4.2 GPA! And get this I remember when Josh dad, Brian, was a star athlete at Kellam High School back in the day. His parents and his teachers and classmates sure are proud of him! Check out all of my photos, WAVY photos and viewers photos from Friday Night Flights on our Flickr pages. I did some last minute clothes shopping for them and witnessed the good, bad and ugly at a local mall. One thing that quickly caught my eye was the amount of plus size or husky clothing for boys and girls. It really made me think about the childhood obesity problem. According to the Centers For Disease Control: Childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past 30 years. The prevalence of obesity among children aged 6 to 11 years increased from 6.5% in 1980 to 19.6% in 2008. The prevalence of obesity among adolescents aged 12 to 19 years increased from 5.0% to 18.1%. I posted on my Facebook page basically saying childhood obesity is out of control and folks started responding quickly. Here what some people had to say: Seems most people thought the epidemic is caused by kids eating more and burning off less. It a problem for us adults, too. Think about how portion sizes have increased over the years and choices of foods. Our clothing sizes have expanded to fit our expanding waistlines. Hopefully with this new school year comes a new outlook on eating and exercising because the issue really has grown out of control.
